It is very rare to find a really old book in great condition simply because of how long it has been around. Pages are often dog-eared, missing or may have writing on them. The binding may be loose or the covers may be damaged. All of these contribute to the book's overall value.

The overall availability of an antique book may add to its value, especially if the book is in demand. However, even if a book is rare, it may not be in demand by book collectors. Sometimes it can almost feel like a guessing game trying to figure out if the book you have is old, rare or collectible.

A first edition is often considered the rarest of a book's printing runs. The term first edition can often be used in odd ways and can often confuse a person who is interested in antique books. Most books only ever have a first edition, so you will usually want to have an expert take a look at your book to determine its value.

Often people will assume that because a book is signed by the author it is more valuable. In the 20th century, book signings have been a quite common occurrence, so signed books are not that rare overall. However, generally speaking, a signed book is somewhat more valuable than its unsigned counterpart. Then again, a lot of this will also depend on the demand that is current in the antique book-buying market.

Antique books can be a wonderful item to collect. The overall interest in antique books is fairly steady, so if you are interested in the world of antique books, information is easy to find. There are also book collecting societies that try and help their members become more adept at book collecting. So, look around, you just may find an antique book lurking in a dusty corner.

Should I believe this offer by my credit card co or is it a gimmick?
I use my card a lot, like make thousands of dollars worth of purchases every month and pay it all off by the end of the month. I got an email (official) from my cc company stating that I am a rare ideal customer and that they're giving me an offer. If I fill out their form telling them about my spending habit and upload my picture, I might be selected for their ad campaign. Should I trust this or are they just trying to gather personal information about me? It says "Congratulations on your 1,000th purchase with "Visa." You're what Rick would call a rare edition (then picture of Rick who is a Visa customer with some pictures of him and a caption saying he's a rare book collector). It goes on to say "Customers like you are quite a find. To show our appreciation, we've reserved these extra special offers just for you. Here's the next chapter of the adventure." Then it says to shop now by clilcking, but below that it says "Casting Call Share your "Visa" story and you could score a starring role in our next ad campaign." When I click on it, it takes me to a page that asks for my name, account number, daytime phone number, how I use the card and my story up to 600 characters in length and to upload my picture. Do you think it's just a marketing thing to gather my personal info or for real? ok thanks you guys. I'll try to be on the safe side as tempting as it is to be in an ad lol. IT's actually a debit card so all they need is my number to pull out money plus maybe they want to make a card using my pic on it...hmmm...
